For the past few years, we have been hearing a lot of buzz about cannabidiol (CBD) and its health benefits. Even the federal government has legalized the use of hemp-derived products in the United States in 2018. The legalization made CBD products popular all over the country.

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is one of the 113 known active cannabinoid compounds present in the hemp and marijuana plants. CBD possesses anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-seizure, anti-anxiety, analgesic, and antipsychotic properties. All these therapeutic properties are beneficial for us.

CBD possesses many therapeutic properties that help in the treatment of several health ailments and this adds to the popularity of the same. Since the discovery of CBD in the year 1940, it had undergone many clinical and laboratory studies to find out how it affects the human body.

Today, CBD is used for the treatment of several health disorders like stress, anxiety, depression, arthritis, migraines, insomnia, nausea, acne, psoriasis, Alzheimer’s diseases, etc. Recent studies have shown that CBD is also effective in reducing the growth of cancer cells in breast cancer patients.

CBD Won’t Get You High

CBD is present in both hemp and marijuana plants. However, it is mainly extracted from the hemp plants. This is because the amount of THC present in the hemp plant is lower when compared to marijuana plants. THC is a psychoactive compound and CBD is not. That means the use of CBD does not give you any euphoric sensation.

In the United States, a CBD product is legal if it is derived from the hemp plants and the THC content in the product is less than 0.3%. The recreational and medical use of CBD is legal in most of the states in the US. Only a few states are yet to legalize the use of CBD products.

Types Of CBD Oil

Based on the presence of other compounds of the hemp plant, CBD oil is differentiated mainly into three. They are CBD isolate, full-spectrum CBD, and broad-spectrum CBD. The CBD isolate is considered as the purest form of CBD because the CBD content is about 99%. It does not contain other cannabinoids and essential compounds present in the hemp plant. It takes additional processing to separate CBD alone from the plant material.

The most common type of CBD oil is the full-spectrum CBD oil. It contains all the cannabinoid compounds present in the hemp plant, including THC. Terpenes, flavonoids, vitamins, minerals, and essential fatty acids are also present in full-spectrum CBD oil in small quantities. The only difference between full-spectrum and broad-spectrum CBD oil is the lack of THC in the broad-spectrum oil. Many people who don’t want THC in their CBD products choose broad-spectrum CBD oil over full-spectrum CBD oil.
