Big money is invested in CBD products across the world and there are many shady manufacturers selling low-quality and sub-standard CBD products. There are also many CBD manufacturers that offer products for animals without any veterinary knowledge or guidance. But that does not mean that CBD for pets does not offer far-reaching health benefits to our horses. Let us see if CBD for pets can be beneficial for our lovely horses.

Can CBD For Pets Get Our Horses High?

The cannabis plant has been used medicinally for numerous years and it has two main compounds and more than two hundred constituents.  The most abundant ones are CBD and THC. THC is the component that can make the users high. However, it s a powerful medicine for psychiatric disorders, different types of cancers and chronic pain. THC is psychoactive, especially in dogs that have numerous CB1 receptors in their brain. However, very little is known about the effects of THC on other animals. On the other hand, CBD does not have any psychoactive effects and at low doses, it can be very effective to soothe the nervous system without affecting the balance or cognition of the person.

Why Size Matters?

Animals are present in various sizes, from elephants to cats. But, when it comes to health supplements and medicines, doses do not scale at the same rates as the size of animals increases. This is because larger animals have slower metabolism rates when compared to smaller animals.

The heart rate of a healthy cat can be between 140 to 190 beats per minute and that of a horse is only between 30 to 35 beats per minute. This means that the ‘by weight’ dosage of CBD for horses can be much lower than that for cats and dogs. For instance, the CBD dosage for easing anxiety in dogs is about 0.1 milligrams per kilogram of body weight and a full spectrum CBD dose of only 25 milligrams rubbed into the gums can help alleviate similar issues in horses, which is about 0.05 milligrams per kilogram body weight. Therefore, using CBD can be very much affordable when using it to soothe the nervous system of a horse.

Choosing CBD For Horses

While buying a CBD product for horses, never consider a product that is not made using good manufacturing processes. When choosing CBD for pets, try to find how user-friendly the CBD product and the manufacturer is. Also, try to find out whether the manufacturer has animal expertise.
